Artists and Instruction

There are many fabulous artists sharing their work as well as instruction online. Here are just a few of the ones that I enjoy.

Koosje Koene (pronounced "Koshah Koonah")

This is a great YouTube channel for encouragement and motivation. Koosje says, “Drawing makes me happy, and I want to show you how you can feel happier too, by allowing yourself time to play and learn in your sketchbook. My mission is to get you going and to keep going on your creative journey.”

Suhita Shirodkar

Suhita offers workshops both in-person and online and also shares her art and tips on her sketchaway blog. Suhita says, “I am an urban sketcher, an artist, illustrator, journalist and teacher. Teoh Yi Chie

Teoh has a lot of tips and demos on his YouTube channel. He says, “My channel features sketching tips and techniques, art product and artbook reviews … In 2009, I started to focus on sketching and watercolor more seriously and I hope to share the experience and knowledge that I've learned over the years.” Below is the link:

Taria Dawson

Taria is a travel sketcher from the UK, now living in South Africa. She shares her sketches, sketching adventures and helpful tips and fun suggestions on her YouTube channel.

Proko (Stan Prokopenko)

This is a great site for lessons on drawing using traditional media and also digital. Many excerpts from these courses are on his website and on his YouTube channel so you can try some of the lessons before buying. He also offers lessons by other art instructors as well.

Stan says, “Hey there! My name is Stan Prokopenko. I’m an artist and teacher. Proko is a resource for artists to get good art instruction videos. When you watch Proko tutorials you’ll notice that I try to make them entertaining while keeping them educational. I feel that if you’re having fun and enjoying the learning process, you learn better.

Urban Sketchers

Their site says, “Urban Sketchers is a global community of sketchers dedicated to the practice of on-location drawing. We share our love for the places where we live and travel—one drawing at a time.”

Lines & Colors

This is a great site to see a wide variety of different types of art from different time periods up to the present day.

Charley Parker says, “Lines and Colors is a blog about painting, drawing, sketching, illustration, comics, cartoons, webcomics, art history, concept art, gallery art, digital art, artist tools and techniques, motion graphics, animation, sci-fi and fantasy illustration, paleo art, storyboards, matte painting, 3d graphics and anything else I find visually interesting. Offers online classes for "creative people". When you purchase a course, you have lifetime online access to the course. Subjects include: illustration, 3D & Animation, craft, and more. Offers online classes. You can buy monthly or annual memberships. But if you only want one or two classes, you can purchase that class without having a membership, and you will get lifetime online access to the course. Mental/Emotional/Physical Wellbeing

Many of us experience conscious and unconscious negative thoughts and emotions or low energy that prevent us from drawing and/or enjoying drawing. So, I’ve included a few links about techniques and practices to help clear out that stuff, which helps our creative juices to flow.

Dr. Harry Henshaw

The link below is a very relaxing and affirming 10-minute video. The video description says, “Relaxation music with positive affirmations and guided meditation for reducing hypertension.” (You don’t have to have hypertension - a calm mind and happy heart would benefit anyone.)

Mindful Movement

Jonathan Goldman

"Jonathan Goldman is a writer, musician and teacher. He is an authority on sound healing and a pioneer in the field of harmonics. Jonathan is the author of HEALING SOUNDS: The Power of Harmonics” and several other books on sound healing.

On his home page you can download free mp3 files of his “Sound Health Enhancer” and his “7-minute Chakra Tune-up”. Also, if you scroll a bit further there’s an interesting video about conscious nitric oxide humming, and at about 4:55 minutes in, Jonathan and his wife Andi guide you through a short humming session.
